This 8 days bird camping safari is one a kind and it takes you to some of major the birding sites in Uganda. The safari features water & savannah habitats. Uganda is home to over 10% of the world’s birds & 50% of Africa’s birds hosting over 1062 different bird species including some of the rarest birds.

The birding safari starts with taking you to Lake Victoria shores & Botanical gardens to explore & sight some of Uganda’s water birds which include Collard sunbird, Orange, Slender Billed, Black Headed among others. It continues to Lake Mburo National park to explore more birds in the bushy thickets, open & wooded savannahs.

This park has an impressive bird list with about 333 bird species recorded namely African fin foot, Great snipe, Abyssinian ground horn bill to name a few. The safari still takes you to Queen Elizabeth National park which is classified as an important birding area by Birding international. Queen Elizabeth National park is home to over 600 bird species & this is the greatest of any East African national park.

DAY 1:- Entebbe area, Camping

Upon your arrival in Uganda at Entebbe airport, your guide will pick you and give a full safari briefing and take you shopping for your safari drinks then head to your designated campsite.  Depending on your flight details, the first highlight of your safari will be a sunset boat cruise or nature walk & relaxation. Camping will be at Botanical gardens Entebbe at a camp-site with permanent ablutions.

DAY 2:- Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable National park.

In the early morning after your breakfast at the campsite, depart from Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable National park embarking on a drive which will take about 9~10hrs. Lunch is en-route as you proceed to Bwindi Forest. Continue driving through the “Switzerland of Africa” area known as the Kigezi Highlands with its terraced hillside and arrive at the designated campsite for some relaxation, dinner & overnight.

DAY 3:- Gorilla trekking

This morning after your forest breakfast at the campsite, carry with you a forest lunch then attend briefing with the Ranger-guide, you will meet fellow trekkers and be briefed concerning gorilla trekking. Later you will begin trekking as led by the park ranger guides who are well informed and knowledgeable about these gorillas, how long trekking will take depends on the movement of mountain gorillas at that time therefore it could last for 2 to 8 hours. You are encouraged to carry enough water, sunglasses, rain coats, hats, and to wear sturdy shoes. You will be allowed to get close encounter with the gorillas for only one hour. After gorilla trekking if time allows you will have a village walk to personally come face to face with the traditional lifestyle of the locals including brewing of local beers and visiting their homesteads. The locals will entertain you with traditional dances and songs.

DAY 4:- Birding trail

After your forest breakfast at the campsite, carry with you a forest lunch then you will set out for bird watching within Bwindi Impenetrable Forest within the Ruhija Area. This area is a very beautiful place at a higher altitude, offering views into Rwanda and this is a wonderful birding area. You will follow the Mubwindi Swamp Trail which will take you through the elephant habited area. The area has about 20 species of birds including the African Green Broadbill plus the Grauer’s Rush Warbler.  In addition you will see the  Waller’s Starling, Short Tailed Warbler, Brown Capped Weaver, Rwenzori Turacco, Barred Long Tailed Cuckoo, Purple Breasted Sunbird, Chubb’s Cisticola, Regal Sunbird, Streaky Seed Eater, Kivu Ground Thrush, Oriole Finch, Lagden’s Bush Shrike, Montane Masked Apalis, Handsome Francolin, Rwenzori Nightjar, Red Faced Woodland Warbler, Blue Headed Sunbird and the Olive Green Camaroptera, e.t.c  If time allows you will be able to explore another birding trail. Whilst birding enjoy your picnic forest lunch in this birding paradise.  In the late afternoon drive back to your campsite whilst sighting various other birds for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

DAY 5:- Birding trail

This is another day of bird viewing in this gorilla home. After your forest breakfast, carry with you a forest lunch then you head out for a full day of  bird watching within the Buhoma area as well as on the outskirts of the park with views of the Red Tailed Bulbul, Great Blue & Black Billed Turacos, Elliot’s Woodpecker, Dusky & Barred Long-Tailed Cuckoos, Cuckoo-Shrike, Bar-Tailed Trogon, Petit, Black Bee-eater and Grey-Throated Barbet, as a starter.  Enjoy your day and sight more scenic forest views. Return to the campsite for relaxation, dinner & overnight.

DAY 6:- Bwindi Impenetrable National forest to Kampala

Wake up with the rising sun & have your last forest breakfast whilst watching camp assistants dismantle the tents  then begin your journey back to the capital Kampala. You will have a lunch break in Masaka and also stop at Nabusanke Trading Center where you can stand on the equator, also buy some souvenirs and crafts then on to Mpambire where to see the Buganda Royal Drum Makers and arrive Kampala in the late afternoon depending on the traffic for dinner & overnight.

DAY 7:- Kampala walking safari

This is our last day on the safari and we get to do a walking safari in Kampala as you do your shopping whilst sighting the city. Later we travel to Entebbe airport depending on your flight details!
